Colombia Travel Guide - So you have decided to take your next vacation to Colombia. Before departing it is very helpful to have a Colombia travel guide so that you have an idea of the sights and destinations to enjoy. Here a few places for you to consider: You will more than likely enter the country either through Cartagena on the Caribbean coast or Bogota which is the capital. Bogata is the cultural, governmental, and intellectual center of this country. It has a European-style appeal and is filled with museums, restaurants, shopping, and night life. Cartagena is a must-see destination. This is the poplar tourist resort city on the Caribbean. This was a city once attacked by pirates and has all of the colonial appeal of center once ruled by the Spanish and operated as a port to ship gold to the old world. The city is divided into two parts: Ciudad Nueva and Ciudad Antigua. Ciudad Nueva is the new part of the city and Ciudad Antigua is the colonial part with its thick walls to protect the city form pirate attacks. If you want to enjoy some tropical islands you can go to San Andres and Providencia. These islands are interesting due to the fact that they are located to the east of Nicaragua and closer to that country than to Colombia. You get there usually by plane. But it has all the relaxing charm of any tropical island in the Caribbean. It would be a shame to leave here and not see the Amazon. Leticia, Colombia is the capital of the Amazonas Department and it is from here where you embark on Amazon tours. Barranquilla is another port on the Caribbean Sea and a must-see in the Colombia travel guide. At the end February or early in the month of March, this city hosts the "Carnivales de Barranquilla" which are said to be the largest in the world. The famous Teatro Amira de la Rosa and Museam of Gold are also in this city. This is just a short Colombia travel guide but there is plenty to get you started and you can branch out from these destinations if you have more time. |
